CHICAGO - May is the month for championships on the Big Ten Network. The 2008 Big Ten Championships and Tournaments in the sports of baseball, men's and women's golf, softball, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's outdoor track and field will be televised between May 4 and May 24. All of these championship events will be produced in stunning high definition.
"The Big Ten traditionally has very strong Olympic sport programs and this year is no exception," Big Ten Network President Mark Silverman said. "We're tremendously proud to cover these events in greater depth than ever before and we know fans will enjoy watching their favorite teams compete for championships."
The broadcast begins at 4 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 4, with coverage of the Big Ten Women's Tennis Championship from the campus of Purdue. The Big Ten Men's Tennis Championship, hosted by Iowa, will appear at 8 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 7.
The network will present extensive live coverage of the Big Ten Softball Tournament beginning Friday, May 9. The final five games of the tournament will be televised, including two quarterfinals, both semifinals and the championship game at 1 p.m. local time on Saturday, May 10.
The Big Ten Network will air consecutive nights of Big Ten Golf Championships coverage beginning with the women's event at 9 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 13. The men's championships will air at 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 14.
The Big Ten Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships, from the Illinois campus, will air at 8 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 22.
The spring championship season wraps up with the Big Ten Baseball Tournament. The last five games of the tournament, and a sixth, if necessary, will be carried by the Big Ten Network. The Big Ten Network begins its live coverage on Friday, May 23. The championship game is slated for Saturday, May 24, at a time to be determined.
