Michigan State Athletics Mission Statement:
"We gather and engage our community to teach, support and celebrate our student-athletes in their quest for excellence."

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State Athletics Department will "Celebrate 2010" with a weekend in the fall (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) dedicated to all former and current student-athletes who have provided the department with a storied past and a winning tradition that continues.

The weekend includes the Hall of Fame induction ceremony, announcement of the Varsity S Club award winners, and the inaugural Varsity Letter Jacket Presentation, and culminates Saturday afternoon when the Spartan football team hosts Wisconsin in the Big Ten opener at Spartan Stadium.

"We're truly excited about the `Celebrate 2010' concept," MSU Athletics Director Mark Hollis said. "This is a unique opportunity to connect the past with the present.

"There's a great sense of accomplishment when a student-athlete earns his/her first letter, so we wanted to mark this personal milestone by awarding the letter jacket in a public setting. During the same weekend we will also have the opportunity to honor the major Varsity S Club award winners and ultimately celebrate the best of the best with the induction of the MSU Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2010."

The "Celebrate 2010" weekend will begin Thursday, Sept. 30 with the Varsity Letter Jacket Presentation at Wharton Center's Pasant Theatre. This closed ceremony, which will be attended by varsity sport head coaches, is for student-athletes who received their first varsity letter during the 2009-10 academic year.

On Friday, the attention shifts from the current student-athletes to honoring Spartan greats who have contributed to the department's rich history of success.

The Hall of Fame inductees and Varsity S Club winners will be introduced at the Downtown Coaches Club luncheon at Hawk Hollow from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Following the luncheon, the latest class of the Michigan State Athletics Hall of Fame will take center stage the rest of the day, first with a press conference, then with a reception, and concluding with the formal Hall of Fame program and induction ceremony.

Prior to the football game on Saturday, the Varsity S Club will host its award brunch at Jenison Field House. At halftime, all of the student-athletes who attended the Varsity Letter Jacket Presentation will take the field, along with the Hall of Fame inductees, the Varsity S Club award winners, and the major athletic award winners from 2009-10.

"This promises to be a special weekend for all Spartan student-athletes, past and present," said Hollis.
