Last Week: The Spartans completed a three-game sweep of Penn State, outscoring the Nittany Lions by a count of 27-7. The three-straight wins over PSU marked consecutive Big Ten series sweeps for the Spartans.
This Week: MSU will host Purdue in its final home weekend of the year. The teams will meet Saturday, Sunday and Monday at McLane Baseball Stadium and all three games will begin at 1:05 p.m.
Notes: With the Spartans' consecutive three-games sweeps over Iowa and Penn State, it marks their longest Big Ten winning streak since the 2007 season when they won seven consecutive ... Freshman Tony Bucciferro and A.J. Achter each boast a 3.09 ERA - ranking in the top 10 in the conference in ERA ... Achter is holding batters to a .238 average, good for fourth in the league, while opponents are hitting .260 off senior Nolan Moody, which ranks ninth in the conference ... As a team, the Spartans have the best ERA in the conference in league games at 4.03 ... Moody, who improved to 6-4 with a win on Friday over PSU, tied Bucciferro with a team season-high nine Ks ... Senior A.J. Dunn picked his first win of the year, pitching the final 2.1 innings in Sunday's 6-5 victory over Penn State ... In his last six appearances, Dunn has pitched 13.2 innings and given up just one run while striking out 12 and walking only four ... MSU's sweep at Iowa (April 24-26) marked the first time that the Spartans have reached double digits in the run column in three consecutive games since 2006 ... Senior catcher Eric Roof finished the weekend series at Iowa with two home runs and 10 RBI after hitting a grand slam and five RBI in April 26's 14-5 win ... Junior Chris Roberts set a career high and a team season high with six RBI, going 5-for-6 in the Spartans' 15-4 win over Iowa on April 25 ... MSU earned its first win over Michigan since 2004 and its first series win over the Wolverines since 2002, taking two of three over the weekend of April 17 ... The Spartans scored their most runs since 2007 in a 20-3 win over Central Michigan on April 1 at Olds Park and then swept Northwestern in their Big Ten home-opening series at McLane Baseball Stadium ... In the inaugural game at McLane Baseball Stadium on April 4, senior Nolan Moody threw the school's first no-hitter in more than 16 years in the Spartans' 2-0 win over Northwestern ... Moody's no-hitter was the first since Dan Garman recorded a no-no vs. Purdue on March 28, 1993, and it was the first no-hitter by a pitcher in the Big Ten since 2006 ... The no-hitter earned Moody Big Ten Pitcher of the Week, NCBWA National Pitcher of the Week, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's Louisville Sluggers Top Performers List and the College Baseball Foundation's National All-Star Lineup ... The Spartans are 14-2 at home this season... Junior pitcher Kyle Corcoran and Moody are tied for second in the conference with four runners picked off ... Bucciferro, who is 4-1 on the year, has 43 strikeouts and has issued just 10 walks in 55.1 innings of work ...Peter Wolff's four saves this season are good for a tie for fourth in the Big Ten ... MSU's 17 pickoffs this year leads the Big Ten and its 25 runners caught stealing is good for a tie at second in the conference ... Junior Eli Boike has also drawn the third-most walks in the Big Ten, earning 33 free passes ... Sophomore Jeff Holm has stolen 15 bases this season, good for a tie for fifth place in the conference ... Sophomore reliever Kurt Wunderlich ranks second in the Big Ten with a 0.89 ERA in conference games.
Last Week: Michigan State split a pair of two-game series with both Penn State and Wisconsin. The Spartans fell 6-3 and won 3-2 against Penn State on Wednesday, and then fell to Wisconsin 2-1 on Saturday but rebounded to win 5-3 on Sunday.
This Week: The Spartans conclude the 2009 season with a home-and-home series against in-state rival Michigan. MSU travels to Ann Arbor on Friday for a 6 p.m. game with the Wolverines before returning to East Lansing on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game at Old College Field.
Notes: Freshman Lauren Kramer, junior Kelly Confer and sophomore Jessica Bracamonte all recorded home runs against Penn State ... Senior Kara Weigle hit a walk-off two-run home run in the seventh inning on Sunday against Wisconsin to win the game 5-3 ... Sophomore Karen Fox led the team over the four-game span with a .500 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage ... Kramer recorded three of the decisions last week and struck out 20 batters through the four games ... Senior Megan Hair pitched 2.1 innings on Sunday against Wisconsin, recording the win for MSU ... Four Spartans are hitting over .300, including Gina Mondo (.388), Lauren Kramer (.344), Kara Weigle (.320) and Lindsey Hansen (.302) ... Weigle has team-highs with 153 at-bats, 49 hits and 13 doubles through the Spartans' 47 games ... Hansen leads the team in several categories including runs (31), triples (3), home runs (10), RBI (30) and total bases (90) ... Mondo leads the team with a .638 slugging percentage and nine stolen bases ... Kramer leads the pitching staff with 36 appearances, including 19 starts ... She has struck out 115 batters through 139.2 innings ... MSU is 42-52 in stolen base attempts this season while Mondo leads the team with nine ... Hansen has swiped eight bags, Weigle has seven and sophomore Karen Fox is perfect in six attempts thus far ... Three Spartans have started all 47 games including Weigle, Hansen and freshman Ali Grant ... The Spartans have recorded 44 home runs through 47 games, the second-highest number of home runs in a season; the most home runs hit in a season was set in 2007 with 50 homers in 59 games ... To date, 10 of the 12 Spartans that have entered the batter's box this season have hit two or more home runs ... The Spartans rank sixth in the Big Ten in batting average and several players are ranked in various categories; Weigle is third in doubles (13) and is third in sacrifice bunts (12) ... Hansen is tied for third in triples (3) and seventh in home runs (10) ... Mondo ranks fourth in the Big Ten in batting average (.388) while Kramer is eighth (.356).

Last Week: MSU competed the majority of its team at the Jesse Owens Classic while senior Nicole Bush competed at the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational at Stanford. Bush ran the nation's fastest 3,000m steeplechase time this season, 9:39.38; it is the second-fastest time in the world this season and fifth-fastest ever by a collegiate athlete. It is also a school record and a new personal-best for Bush and qualifies her for the NCAA Mideast Regional.
This Week: MSU will head to the Len Paddock Invitational, hosted by Michigan in Ann Arbor. The two-day meet will begin on Friday and continue through Saturday.
Notes: Bush has qualified for regional competition in three different events this season and is one of only two student-athletes on the women's side to rank in the top five in the Big Ten in three different events - the 1,500m and 5,000m runs and the 3,000m steeplechase ... The only other student-athlete to rank in the top five in three different events is Gayle Hunter, a multi-event standout at Penn State ... In all, MSU has qualified 20 student-athletes for NCAA regional competition in 27 different events during the outdoor season, with many coming in their past four weekends ... Three Spartans - Logan Lynch, Katie Shaw and Shane Wells - set personal-bests and regional qualifying marks at the Drake Relays two weeks ago ... Lynch posted a mark of 5.20m (17-0 ¼) while Shaw vaulted 4.00m (13-1 ½) in the pole vault ... Wells ran 13.91 in the 110m hurdles, a career-best en-route to his fifth-place finish; the time is his third regional qualifying mark this season ... Senior Jeremy Orr made his outdoor debut at Indiana where he posted a regional qualifying time of 46.78 in the 400m dash which currently ranks third in the Big Ten ... Sophomore Yury Ratomski qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in the 200m dash after running 21.31 at the Joe Hilton Invite, a time which ranks fourth in the conference ... Lisa Senakiewich posted regional qualifying times in the 1,500m run at back-to-back meets, highlighted by a season-best time of 4:23.23 at the Indiana Invite which ranks sixth in the conference, just behind Bush who ranks fifth ... Senakiewich has also qualified in the 5,000m run as has junior Emily MacLeod and senior Sarah Price ... Price also qualified in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:30.12, ranking fifth in the Big Ten ... Junior Leah Elenbaas posted a time of 2:08.38 in the 800m run at the Joe Hilton Invite, qualifying her for regionals ... Both Shane Knoll and Ian Boyle posted regional qualifying times at the Hilton as well; Knoll tallied a 1:49.78 while Boyle posted a time of 1:50.22 in the 800m run ... Knoll improved his time at Indiana after finishing in 1:49.62, which currently ranks second in the Big Ten; he also ranks ninth in the 1,500m run after clocking a regional qualifying time of 3:47.46 at the Jesse Owens Classic last weekend ... Several throwers have also qualified for regionals this season ... Kyle Strotbaum qualified with his toss 58.67m (192-6) in the hammer at the Jesse Owens Classic; his toss shattered the school record in the event ... Freshman Lonnie Pugh also set a school record for the throwers, qualifying him for regionals in the discus ... Pugh tossed 56.33 (184-10) at the Indiana Invite, a mark that ranks him first in the Big Ten this season ... Ashley Lawrence posted a season-best toss of 15.22m (49-11 1/4) in the women's shot put at the Jesse Owens, qualifying her for regionals ... Anthony Agrusa set his qualifying mark in the hammer, turning in a throw of 57.22m (187-9) at the Gina Relays ... Brad Wentzel has posted regional qualifying marks in two events, the shot put and discus; his mark of 53.06m (174-1) in the discus ranks sixth in the Big Ten ... Kyron Foster and Spencer Beatty joined the list of regional qualifiers over the weekend ... Foster leaped 15.24m (50-0) in the triple jump, ranking him third in the conference and a spot at regionals ... Beatty ran 8:58.78 in the 3,000m steeplechase, making him the Spartans' most recent regional qualifier; he also ranks fourth in the conference with that time ... ... Freshman Cliff Miller placed sixth in the decathlon at the Drake Relays, the best finish by an underclassmen in the event ... Miller broke Paul Terek's MSU freshman record after posting 6,865 in his first collegiate decathlon.
Last Week Week: The Spartans claimed their second-straight Big Ten title, and third in five seasons, after compiling 137 points Saturday on Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio. MSU won both the varsity eight and second varsity eight races to clinch the victory, joining Michigan as only the second team in Big Ten history to win back-to-back team titles.
This Week: MSU will have the week off to prepare for the NCAA South/Central Sprints, held in Oak Ridge, Tenn., on May 16. The Spartans won their first Central Regional title at last year's competition.
Notes: The Spartans' varsity eight earned back-to-back titles after clocking in at 6:06.30, topping second-place Michigan by nearly a length ... MSU's varsity eight has not lost a race this season, moving to 9-0 on the season ... The only time that the boat did not finish in first was during the Big Ten Championships preliminary heats ... The second varsity eight claimed its first gold medal since 2003 after winning the Grand Final at the Big Ten Championships; the crew also won its preliminary heat, completing the perfect day ... The second varsity eight is 8-1 on the season ... Seniors Sarah Schmidt, Lauren Gamble and Amanda Dunnill were named to the All-Big Ten First Team while seniors Nancy Diehl and Ashley Peach were honored as All-Big Ten Second Team members ... Senior Ashley Wenneman was honored as MSU's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award ... The Spartans' second novice eight and second varsity four each earned bronze medals at the event ... MSU is ranked third in the nation in the CRCA Coaches Poll, and the varsity eight is ranked second in the cMax poll, which attempts to rank the nation's fastest crews ... MSU will head into the NCAA South/Central Sprints as the defending champion and the top team at this year's competition ... MSU has qualified for the NCAA National Regatta in 10 of the last 11 seasons ... The Big Ten Network will air the Big Ten Championships on Sunday, May 17 ... Former Spartan Academic All-American Kate Burdick will provide color analysis for the Big Ten Championships during the coverage of the event ... Laura Cowal, last year's Big Ten Freshman of the Year, will also be featured in the broadcast, providing fans with an inside look at Spartan rowing.
Last Week: The Spartans placed 11th at the 2009 Big Ten Championships. Junior Jack Newman tied for 10th overall at the tournament and was the Spartans' top finisher at the event.
Notes: MSU received a bid to the NCAA Regional Championships in Stillwater, Okla., from May 14-16 ... The Spartans will be the No. 7 overall seed at the event, which will be hosted by top-seeded Oklahoma State ... In all, 13 teams were selected to the regional, which will be played at Karsten Creek Golf Club ... Newman earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors for the second-straight season.

This Week: The No. 23 Spartan women's golf team will be making its 11th consecutive appearance in the postseason this week (May 7-9) at the NCAA Central Regional in Columbus, Ohio. The regional, hosted by Ohio State, is being held at the par 72, 6,246-yard Scarlet Course. The Spartans need a top-eight finish at regionals to advance to the NCAA Championships May 19-22 in Owings Mills, Md.
Notes: Junior Laura Kueny leads the team with a 72.24 stroke average, which is currently third best in MSU single-season history...The Whitehall, Mich., native has placed second in three tournaments this season, including the Lady Buckeye Invitational on the Scarlet Course April 18-19...A two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection, Kueny has been the top Spartan finisher in all but two tournaments this season. She tied for fourth at the Big Ten Championships and is ranked No. 17 in the nation...Sophomore Aimee Neff, who earned second-team All-Big Ten accolades for the second year in a row, is the only other Spartan with NCAA experience...Neff competed at the 2008 West Regionals in Lincoln, Calif., as a freshman...This season, she is second on the team with a 77.07 average and has three top-10 finishes...Sophomore Michelle Bowles and freshmen Lindsey Solberg and Shannon Warner will round out the lineup for MSU at regionals...Solberg also earned second-team All-Big Ten honors this season.
