EAST LANSING, Michigan - The Big Ten Conference released the list of student-athletes who received the 2013-14 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar Award today. The conference recognized 684 student-athletes for earning a grade point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the 2013-14 academic year, included in the list were 59 Michigan State student-athletes.

The Distinguished Scholar Award, which began after the 2008-09 academic year, acts as a supplement to the Academic All-Big Ten program. The award honors letterwinners in at least their second academic year at the institution, who reach the 3.7 GPA plateau for the academic year, excluding summer school.

MSU had the fifth-most honorees among conference schools, trailing Ohio State (89), Penn State (73), Nebraska (62) and Minnesota (61).

In all, 101 Big Ten student-athletes accomplished a perfect 4.0 GPA, including 12 Spartans. The MSU student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA were men's basketball's Colby Wollenmann, men's cross country/track & field Garret Zuk, women's crew's Olivia Jamrog, men's soccer's Andrew Herr and Adam Montague, women's soccer's Lisa Vogel, men's swimming & diving's David Zoltowski, women's swimming & diving's Kelly Delorme, women's track & field Adeline Grier-Welch, volleyball's Maggie Halloran and Kristen Kelsay and wrestling's Joe Johnson.
