MSU Office of Compliance Services Appoints Two Staff Members
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State's recently established Office of Compliance Services has appointed Judy Van Horn and Chris Reynolds to its staff, Associate Athletics Director John Hardt announced Tuesday. Van Horn joins the staff as compliance coordinator, while Reynolds will serve as assistant compliance coordinator.
Van Horn comes to MSU from Central Michigan University, where she has served as compliance coordinator since 1994. Van Horn, who earned her undergraduate degree from CMU in 1981 and a master's in sports administration there in 1995, oversaw the athletics department's compliance with NCAA and Mid-American Conference rules. Prior to her most recent position, Van Horn had served as assistant coordinator for compliance at CMU (1992-94) and was the director and founder of Michigan Girls & Women in Sports (1993-96), an event honoring outstanding female athletes in Michigan.
Reynolds, a 1993 Indiana University graduate who last spring completed his law degree at Indiana's College of Law, comes to Michigan State from the NCAA, where he served as Member Services intern in 1996 97. At the NCAA headquarters in Overland Park, Kan., he worked with member institutions answering questions regarding NCAA rules and their interpretation and application. Reynolds, a former co-captain of the IU basketball team who went to the Final Four with the Hoosiers in 1992, also has experience in two stints as an intern with the school's compliance office.
"With the addition of the substantial talents and skills of Judy Van Horn and Chris Reynolds to the Spartan compliance services team, Michigan State's compliance program is poised to become a model for the Big Ten and a national leader in the area of athletic compliance," Hardt said. "Van Horn and Reynolds are two outstanding individuals who possess the highest levels of commitment to the integrity of college athletics and will be substantial contributors to the success of MSU's athletics programs and compliance efforts."
Van Horn and Reynolds will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining a comprehensive program of policies and procedures that will ensure compliance with NCAA, Big Ten Conference, CCHA and University regulations. In addition, both will be responsible for maintaining Michigan State's comprehensive rules education program; monitoring eligibility status and financial aid for all MSU student-athletes; and serving as compliance liaisons for the Spartan athletics community. At Michigan State, Van Horn and Reynolds will work under the direction of Hardt, MSU's associate director of athletics for administration and compliance services.
