Big Ten Men's and Women's All-Star Basketball Teams Set to Travel to Europe

PARK RIDGE, Ill. - This year's Big Ten all-star basketball team will travel to Europe to compete in Austria, Slovakia, England, France and Belgium. The women's tour will take place June 16-27 in Austria and Slovakia. The men will travel to Europe August 7-18 to compete in England, France and Germany. Michigan State men's basketball head coach Tom Izzo and Indiana head women's basketball coach Jim Izard will lead Big Ten men's and women's all-star basketball squads on tours sponsored by Creative Sports.

The women's All-Star squad will be competing on its sixth tour and will depart from Indianapolis on Monday, June 16 with the first contest of the six game tour taking place on Wednesday, June 18 against the Austrian All-Stars. The women are scheduled to play another game against the Austrian All-Stars and will also face Myjava BBC, Slovan Bratislava, USK Prague and Czech Junior National Team. USK Prague is considered to be the second best team in the Czech Republic. During the five-year history of the All-Star tour, the Big Ten has compiled a 20-11 mark. Last year's team was 6-0 playing teams from Sweden.

This years men's tour will mark the eighth time the Big Ten has sent an all-star squad to compete overseas. The men will be playing a six to seven game schedule with two or three games each in England, France and Belgium. Dates and times will be confirmed at a later date. Last year, the men's All-Stars compiled a 4-2 record in a tour through Italy.and have posted a 65-18 mark over the course of seven all-star tours. The Big Ten's best finish was a 7-0 mark during the summer of 1995 and was the only men's touring team to finish with an unblemished record. Previous tours have visited Japan, Argentina, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, England, Sweden, Finland and Australia.

Among the players participating in the tour are Michigan State's David Thomas and DuJuan Wiley, along with Purdue's B.J. Carretta. On the women's team Michigan State's Kirsten Rasmussen and Purdue's Tiffany Young will join nine other BIG Ten All-Stars for the trip.
