Burns Selected for World University Games
East Lansing, MI -- Michigan State University senior track sprinter Chandra Burns has been selected to compete in the 22nd World University Games, Aug. 19-31, in Sicily, Italy.
Burns, a native of Detroit, will compete in the 400 meters and will run a leg on the 4x400 relay. The track and field competition will take place from Aug. 28-31. Burns recently competed in the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. She finished seventh in the 400 meters with a personal best time of 51.71. Burns also advanced to the semifinals of the 200 meters (23.38).
Fynes Finishes Third in Big Ten Athlete of the Year Voting
Michigan State sprinter Sevatheda Fynes (Cooper's Town, Bahamas) finished third in the Big Ten-Suzy Favor Athlete of the Year voting. Minnesota swimmer Gretchen Hegener and Wisconsin track standout Kathy Butler shared the award in one of the closest votes in the history of the award.
Hegener and Butler each earned 16 points and received three first-place votes, while Fynes garnered 12 points and three first-place votes.
