Three Spartan Teams Honored for Academic Achievement
The Michigan State softball team tied for ninth nationally on the National Fastpitch Coaches Associtation's (NFCA) All-Academic Team list. The Spartans compiled a team grade-point average of 3.23 in 1996-97 to tie Detroit-Mercy.
Michigan State was the only Big Ten team represented on the squad and the only school to be ranked nationally for academics and athletics. The Spartans finished the 1997 campaign ranked 24th nationally after compiling a 47-22 record and advancing to the NCAA Regionals.
The Spartan men's swimming and diving team was ninth nationally on the College Swimming Coaches Association of America's Academic All-America list for the 1997 winter/spring semester. The Spartans were the highest ranked Big Ten squad, posting a team grade-point average of 3.17.
The MSU women's swimming and diving team finished in a tie for 66th on the CSCAA Academic All-America chart. The Spartan women were the sixth-ranked team in the Big Ten and posted a team GPA of 3.02 for the winter/spring semester.Student-Athlete Support Services Names Student-Athletes of the Month
