W. Gymnastics. Gymnastics Places Second at UCLA Tri-Meet

The Michigan State gymnastics team (11-6) closed out its spring trip on Sunday (March 14) when it traveled to Los Angeles for a tri-meet hosted by UCLA. The Spartans and the Bruins were joined by Cal State Fullerton. Placing third in the all-around was senior Nicole Curler who recorded a score of 39.125.

M. Golf. Men's Golf Concludes Pinehurst in Seventh

Wrapping up its first stroke play tournament of the spring, the Michigan State men's golf team placed seventh in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate on Sunday, posting a three-day score of 31-over par 895 (292-303-300). Senior Jack Newman and sophomore Chris Mory led the Spartans this weekend, both tying for 11th overall at 5-over par 221.

Michigan State has earned an NCAA bid for the 13th straight year and was named a No. 5 seed in the Midwest Region. The Spartans (24-8) will face 12th-seeded New Mexico State (22-11) Friday at 7:20 p.m. ET in Spokane, Wash., in first-round action. M. Basketball. Additional Free Seating Available for Basketball Banquet Awards Program

Tickets for the dinner portion of the 2010 Michigan State men's basketball banquet are sold out. Spartan fans, however, can still be a part of the season celebration and attend the awards program for free on Monday, March 15. Doors to Breslin Center will open at 7:30 p.m. and the program will start at approximately 7:45 p.m. Fans can sit in the green seats in the lower bowl and watch the festivities, including team introductions, award presentations, acceptance speeches and remarks from Coach Tom Izzo. The event is a celebration of the Big Ten Championship season to date, prior to the Spartans embarking on their journey to their 13th-straight NCAA Tournament. This is the first year it will be held on campus at Breslin Center.

The Michigan State men's tennis team (11-4) concluded its non-conference schedule with 6-1 wins over both Eastern Illinois and Dayton on Saturday (March 13) at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility. With the two wins, the Spartans extend their win streak to four matches as they head into conference action. Both freshman Denis Bogatov and sophomore Ronnie Hulewicz led all Spartans with three wins on the day.

Track. Kyron Foster Places Sixth at 2010 NCAA Indoor Championships

Kyron Foster of the Michigan State track & field team capped out a stellar indoor triple jump season at the 2010 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday, March 13. Foster finished sixth with a school record jump of 16.21m. As a result of Foster's finish, he becomes the first Spartan in school history to receive All-America honors as a triple jumper, and the 50th indoor All-American all-time at MSU.

In its final games in the south before heading back north for the remainder of the season, the Michigan State softball team (10-13) swept George Washington in its final games at the Golden Panther Invite on the campus of Florida International on Saturday, March 13. The Spartans opened the two-game set with a 6-2 win in game one, and followed suit with a five-inning eight-run mercy rule victory in the second (8-0). Junior Jessica Bracamonte continued tearing it up at the Golden Panther Invite with four RBIs on the day, going 5-for-6 at the plate against the Colonials.

W. Crew. Rowers Get in Spring Scrimmage with Virginia

The Michigan State rowing team got its spring schedule underway on Saturday in Charlottesville, taking part in a scrimmage with the team from the University of Virginia. The scrimmage consisted of five small timed races in six events featuring the varsity eight, second varsity eight, varsity four, second varsity four, novice eight and novice four.

Louie Caporusso scored twice and to propel seventh-seeded Michigan to a 5-1 victory over homestanding Michigan State on Friday evening at Munn Ice Arena. Michigan took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three quarterfinal series, and the teams will play again on Saturday evening at Munn Ice Arena. Derek Grant had the lone goal for MSU, which was outshot by a 32-16 margin.

Wrestling. Wrestling Will Send Six to the NCAA Championships

With the seniors Kyle Bounds and Nick Palmieri receiving at-large bids on Wednesday evening, the Michigan State wrestling team will send a total of six student-athletes to this year's NCAA Championships. Bounds (165) and Palmieri (184) will join Franklin Gomez (133), David Cheza (149), Anthony Jones Jr. (157) and Ian Hinton (174), who all earned automatic berths as a result of their finishes at the Big Ten Championships, at this year's NCAA Championships.

M. Ice Hockey. Trio of Spartan Icers Earn All-CCHA Honors

Three Michigan State hockey players have been voted to the CCHA All-Conference Teams, as selected by a vote of the conference's 12 head coaches. The teams were released on Wednesday, and three Spartans have earned Second-Team honors: junior forward Corey Tropp (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.), junior defenseman Jeff Petry (Farmington Hills, Mich.), and sophomore netminder Drew Palmisano (Ann Arbor, Mich.). It is the first All-Conference honor for each of the student-athletes.
