BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Michigan State softball's season came to an end on Sunday afternoon, falling 3-1 to Indiana at Andy Mohr Field.
Michigan State softball concludes its 2023 campaign with an overall record of 14-32. Thank you once again to our four graduating seniors Brooke Snyder, Kendall Kates, Kennedy Wyllie and Jessica Mabrey.
Spartan Stats
Sophomore Faith Guidry (5-13) started in the circle for the second time this weekend. Guidry threw 4.0 innings allowing two earned runs on four hits and three walks before junior Ashley Miller came in to pitch in relief. Miller struck out three over 2.0 innings, allowing one earned run on no hits.
Despite the loss, Michigan State out-hit the Hoosiers by a 7-4 tally.
Senior Kennedy Wyllie led the team with a pair of hits in her final collegiate game. Keeping with the trend of seniors performing in their final game, it was senior Kendall Kates who drove in the lone run for MSU on a sixth inning triple. Senior Jessica Mabrey, senior Brooke Snyder, sophomore Macy Lee and freshman Britain Beshears also had hits for MSU on Sunday.
How It Happened
After two scoreless innings to open game three, Indiana found themselves on the scoreboard first following a sac fly in the bottom of the third inning.
Michigan State put two runners on in the fourth after Wyllie singled but were unable to bring any around to score.
Indiana doubled its lead in the fourth using small ball to move runners around the bases. A bunt single, a single to left, and a sac bunt put two runners in scoring position before a wild pitch led to an IU run. The Hoosiers added another run via wild pitch in the fifth after a pair of walks and a fielder's choice moved a runner up to third.
Kates made her mark in her final collegiate game, driving in Michigan State's lone run of the game via a two-out stand-up triple in the sixth inning. Wyllie scored from first on the play as the ball dropped past the diving Hoosier outfielder before rolling to the fence.
