Swimming and Diving Updates from the Desk of Matt Gianiodis
Oct. 12, 2006
At homecoming, we had a lot of feedback on our black Northface fleeces. Many alumni/boosters said they would like to be able to get one. Kathleen has done the leg work to make them available just in time for holiday shopping. If you are at all interested in purchasing one, send her an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org
If you would want anything else in time for the holidays, please feel free to contact us. That includes t-shirts, caps, etc. We should be able to get you MSU swimming and diving gear.
Next week begins our schedule in earnest. We have a women's meet against Akron (Friday at 5 p.m.) and then another women's meet against Illinois (Saturday at 1 p.m.). Both teams will pose a very formidable challenge for our women. Illinois is anchored by the 2005 Big Ten 100 freestyle champion 2005, and Akron has a new coach, who was an assistant at Penn State last season. We invite everyone to come on out and support our team.
We have set our camps dates for next summer. We are going to have four weeks of camp: June 17-21, June 24-27 (sprint), July 8-12 and July 15-18 (sprint). We will begin to take camp applications in February. However, it is good to mark the days down in your calendars.
Also, big news from the Physical Plant is that there will be work done on the IM West pool this summer. The project will require the complete shut down of the indoor pool from May to August. The project does not include making it long course, adding two lanes and a full diving platform-the project is not a full make over. It does; however, include a new filter system and perhaps new tiling, painting and possibly a new bulkhead. The project along with a separate project, refurbishing the Jenison pool, will cost in excess of $2 million.
Finally, we are beginning to see progress on our new locker rooms and we hope to be in them soon.
I hope all is well. If anyone is coming to town for the Ohio State football game, please stop by. We will be practicing outdoors from 8-11 a.m. on Saturday.
Until next time,
