SPARTAN FINALE: The Michigan State women's swimming and diving team returns home this weekend for its final dual meet of the season. The Spartans will take on the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Charles McCaffree Pool. The meet will begin at 12 p.m.
SPARTANS BLAST PAST ROCKETS: MSU pulled out a convincing, 154-66, victory over the Toledo Rockets on Tuesday, Jan. 20, after winning 12 out of 13 events. Seniors Anne Illgen and Shannon Elliot each collected two wins apiece to lead the Spartans. Illgen was victorious in the 1,000 freestyle (10:30.36) and in the 200 butterfly, where she broke her own pool record with a time of 2:05.05. Elliot defeated her opponents in the 200 individual medley (2:12.39) and the 100 freestyle (53.79). Also winning freestyle events were sophomores Catrin Lenfers and Dianne Oliver, and junior Dawn Polk. Lenfers won the 200 freestyle (1:56.33), while Oliver was victorious in the 50 freestyle (24.34). Polk defeated her opponents in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:09.43. Winning the 200 breaststroke was junior Rachel Frumkin in 2:23.52. Junior diver Kim Zieman continued to dominate her competition by sweeping the 1- (269.25) and 3-meter (296.48) boards.
BITTEN BY THE WILDCATS: The Spartans came up short against Northwestern on Saturday, Jan. 24, in Evanston, falling by a score of 184-115. Once again, Illgen led MSU with a win in the 200 butterfly (2:04.92). Lenfers was victorious in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:10.64. Zieman once again swept both the 1- (254.35) and 3-meter diving (258.20).
