SPARTAN FINALE: The Michigan State men's swimming and diving team returns home this weekend for its final home dual meet of the season. The Spartans will take on the Indiana Hoosiers on Friday, Jan. 30, at the Charles McCaffree Pool. The meet will begin at 7 p.m.
SPARTANS DROP HEARTBBREAKER: MSU lost a very competitive meet with Toledo (122-121) that went right down to the wire on Tuesday, Jan. 20. Freshman John Munley paced the Spartan effort with wins in the 200 freestyle (1:40.39) and the 500 freestyle (4:37.66). The Spartans also received strong performances from junior captain John Bruesch, who won the 200 breaststroke (2:06.50), and junior Michael Mulshine, who took the 200 butterfly in dramatic fashion with a time of 1:54.21. MSU diver Jeremy Hertza pitched in with a win in the 1-meter diving competition, where he finished with a score of 252.91.
MSU HITS ROAD BLOCK: The Spartans struggled through two losses at a tri-meet in Evanston, Ill., on Saturday, Jan. 24. The Spartans suffered two Big Ten losses to Northwestern (165-134) and Purdue (195-104). Bruesch led the team with a victory in the 200 backstroke in 2:05.75, while junior Daniel Bacheler contributed with a win in the 1,000 freestyle (9:25.02). Munley also came up with a victory in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:35.17.
