When Garrett Ruhland tried to save a bird from the middle of the pool, but when he got to it, he realized it was a bat and it chased him out of the pool.

Freshman Season: Swam to a first-place finish in the 200 fly (2:05.07) in win over Oakland (1/25)...Placed second in the 100 fly (58.38) at Ohio State (1/25)...Key part of two 200 medley relay first-place finishes vs. Ball State (12/8) and Valparaiso (1/11)...400 medley relay team took first place vs. Oakland (1/25)...Swam the team's best time of the year in the 100 fly (57.95) at the Big Ten Championships and best time in the 200 fly (2:05.07) at Oakland (1/25)...Competed in 12 meets as a freshman.
