Jarzen Competes at Day 1 of NCAA Championships

Day 1

Freshman Season: First swimmer in program history to be named Big Ten Freshman of the Year ... Broke five individual school records - the 100 free (44.44), the 200 free (1:36.22), the 100 backstroke (48.11), the 200 backstroke (1:43.9) and the 100 fly (46:92) - and was on three record-breaking relay teams - the 400 medley relay (3:13.10), the 400 free relay (2:57.92) and the 800 free relay (6:29.44) ... Swam the 100 back in a NCAA B-cut time 48.11, placed fifth in the 200 backstroke with a 1:43.98 and placed third in the 100 fly with a 47.01 at the Big Ten Championships ... Placed 24th at the NCAA Championships in the 100 fly with a 47.12, and swam the 100 backstroke in 48.24 ... Won the 200 backstroke at the TYR Invitational with a time of 1:46.82 ... Placed first in the 200 backstroke at the dual against Notre Dame with a 1:50.21 mark ... Finished with a first-place times of 49.72 in the 100 breaststroke,1:52.83 in the 200 IM and 1:49.53 in the 200 backstroke against Purdue ... Won the 200 IM against Grand Valley State with a time of 1:55.47 ... Recorded a win against Oakland in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:47.54 and in the 200 IM with a time of 1:52.24 ... Competed at the USA Swimming National Championships meet over the summer, swimming the 100m backstroke (57.79), 100m free (52.80) and 200m backstroke (2:05.72).

High School: Two-time Illinois state champion in the 100 backstroke in 2008 (50.85) and 2009 (49.16) ... U.S. national qualifier in the 100 backstroke ... All-state honoree as a sophomore, junior and senior ... Named team MVP all four years and captain his junior and senior seasons ...
