Richard Mull enters his seventh season an assistant coach for the Michigan State swimming and diving teams.
Coaching both the men and women, Mull mainly works with the distance swimmers. In addition to coaching, Mull is responsible for the program's record keeping and archiving. In the summer, Mull assists with the Spartan Swim Camp.
A lifetime resident of the Lansing area, Mull swam at Michigan State from 1963-1968. After graduating from MSU with a degree in english, he became head coach of Okemos High School (1970-74) where he was named Michigan High School Coach of the Year in 1974. Mull then took over the head coaching postion at Lansing Community College, earning Region XII Coach of the Year honors in 1979. Aside from being the head swimming coach at LCC, Mull also worked as the athletics director.
Mull lives in Lansing with his wife, Leslie. Two of his sons, Alec and Iian, also graduated from Michigan State and were members of the Spartan swim teams. A third son, Cameron, swam for Ohio State from 1996-99.
