More than 50 student-athletes earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2017-18


Academic All-Big Ten Honors Announced for the 2017-18 Winter Season


Academic All-Big Ten honoree …  Finished 15th overall in the 200 fly at the Big Ten Championships with a season and team-best time of 1:46.77 … Swam season-best times of 24.64 in the 50 back, 52.56 in the 100 back and 1:51.53 in the 200 back … Swam a season-best time of 1:47.90 in the 200 IM at the Big Ten Championships … Recorded five first-place finishes, three second-place finishes and two third-place finishes over the course of the season.

Swam his best time of 4:46.10 in the 500 freestyle against Ohio State … Recorded his best time of 24.11 at the Northwestern TYR Invitational in the 50 backstroke … Had a personal season-best time of 51.77 in the 100 backstroke at the Northwestern TYR Invitational … Clocked in at 1:48.71 in the 200 backstroke at the Winter National Champs Time Trials … Recorded his best time of 1:46.52 at the Big Ten Championships in the 200 butterfly … Swam his best times of 1:47.78 in the 200 IM and 3:49.31 in the 400 IM at the Big Ten Championships.

Prior to MSU:
Named an All-American and Academic All-American swimmer ... Placed second at the Illinois State swim meet ... Was a water polo State Champion ... Elected team captain.

Born July 17, 1997 ... Son to Pat and Carole Piper ... His father, Pat, swam at Illinois State University ... His older brother, Keith, swam at University of Connecticut ... Was a member of the J. Kyle Blind Leadership Program ... Was a member of the National Honors Society ... Plans to major in environmental engineering.
