Feb. 17, 2010
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Michigan State women's swimming and diving team opened the 2010 Big Ten Championships on Wednesday (Feb. 17) in West Lafayette, Ind. All 11 teams competed in just two events on Wednesday - the 200 medley and 800 freestyle relay. In the 200 medley, the MSU team of Stephanie Fisher, Kerry Sodonis, Becca Ebner and Jenny Rusch swam to a 10th-place finish with a time of 1:43.14. In the 800 free relay, Mara Loniewski, Erinn Wertz, Torri Meritt and Rachel Wilson also finished 10th with a time of 7:32.62.
"I'm a little disappointed in our medley relay," said MSU head coach Matt Gianiodis. "We swam in second heat, so that was a little tougher. We had some good splits in free relay and, hopefully, we can carry that into tomorrow and be better."
Time trials begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday with the finals taking place at 6:30 p.m.
