COLUMBUS, Ohio - Junior Heather Kiluk set a school record in the 200 IM and junior divers Danielle Williams and Alycia Mokedanz placed in the top 15 as the Michigan State women's swimming & diving team completed day one of the 2008 Big Ten Women's Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday, Feb. 21. The Spartans are currently in 10th place with 35 points. Michigan and Minnesota are leading the team scoring with 182 and 177.5 points, respectively.

Kiluk, who has been MSU's top swimmer all season, delivered great 200 IM swims in the preliminary and final rounds on Thursday. Kiluk clocked a 2:04.20 in the prelims and a 2:04.44 in the finals, good for 21st place.

"We are performing really well, and we had a good first day," head coach Matt Gianiodis said. "There are so many great teams here. We just need to find a way to score some more points."

The Spartans diving corps also had a good day. Williams placed 13th in one-meter diving with a 250.25, narrowly edging Mokedanz, who placed 14th with a 248.15 tally.
