Men's Swimming in Fifth After Day One at Big Tens
Spartans set school record in 800 free relay.

COLUMBUS, Ohio. - The Michigan State men's swimming and diving team set a school record in the 800 free relay and is in fifth place with 54 points after day one of the Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships in Columbus, Ohio. The Spartans also placed fifth in the 200 medley relay in the only other event on Wednesday.
"I don't think we could have asked for a better day today," said MSU head coach Matt Gianiodis. "We had great splits in both relays and everyone is in good spirits. We're really looking forward to tomorrow."
Jacob Jarzen, Joe Schmitt, Sho Koba and Mark Schramm set the new school record in the 800 free relay for MSU with a time of 6:29.33, taking sixth place. The 200 medley relay team of Jon LaRocque, kevin Puskaric, Jarzen and Schmitt turned in a 1:28.17.
Tomorrow's preliminaries will begin at 12 p.m.
