Celebrate 2010

Breslin Center

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Three of four Michigan State divers advanced to the final round of the Zone Regional Championships Friday afternoon at Ohio State's McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. Junior Danielle Williams placed 15th in women's one-meter diving, while sophomores David Garry (17th) and Ivan Zalessov (18th) each advanced to the three-meter diving finals.
Williams stayed consistent from the preliminary round to the finals, finishing 15th in both contests. She stood 15th after the prelims with a 239.70 totals, and stayed there in the final standings with a tally of 480.50. Fellow junior and team tri-captain Alycia Mokedanz placed 29th in the one-meter diving preliminaries with a score of 215.50. Forty-one divers competed in the event.
Garry placed 17th in the men's three-meter finals with a total of 567.30, and Zalessov was just one spot behind with a 552.85 score. Zalessov was very successful in the prelims, placing 10th (307.55). Garry placed 18th in the prelims (278.70). There were 39 competitors in the men's event.
"Ivan lit it up in the prelims, but he couldn't keep it up in the finals," MSU diving coach Eric Best said. "Dave was - as always - steady and consistent.
"Danielle had a pretty good day, but can get better. Overall, there was definitely some good stuff today."
Women's three-meter diving and men's one-meter diving is set for Saturday morning, while the weekend ends with platform diving on Sunday.
