March 24, 2012
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Michigan State swimmer Jacob Jarzen closed out the final day of the NCAA Championships with another solid performance, this time, in the 200-yard backstroke. Jarzen advanced to the final round in the event, taking 11th place overall with a time of 1:42.71.
In the prelim afternoon session, the Spartan clocked in at 1:42.34 for 13th place, qualifying for the final round. Jarzen set a new varsity record with the time, breaking the previous one he set in the event back in 2010. He also shaved nearly two seconds off his seed time.
Jarzen was the only representative for MSU at the championships but his impressive performances over the three-day period placed the lone Spartan in 31st place on the team board out of 46 qualifying schools.
