EAST MEADOW, N.Y. - Michigan State sophomore Ian Clutten placed 31st at the 2004 Men's NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, State's lone representative at the season-ending event in East Meadow, N.Y. Measured in short course meters, the Capetown, South Africa, native posted a time of 1:01.96.

"Ian did not have the greatest swim in the world today," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "He is focused on the Olympic trials in South Africa next month. This is a very difficult meet to go into if you are not 100 percent prepared to swim well."

Clutten competes in the 200 breaststroke tomorrow, the final day of the Championships, at the Nassau Aquatics Center in East Meadow, N.Y.
