Swimming & Diving Finish Second At Northwestern TYR Invitational
Freshman Guy Moskovich won the mile.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State men’s and women's swimming and diving teams brought home second-place finishes from the Northwestern TYR Invitational. The men finished second out of six teams, while the women finished second out of nine teams.
“Guy (Moskovich) did a great job. He won the mile,” head coach Matt Gianiodis said. “I thought we got strong as the session ended. We came up a little short in the scores, but I thought the kids did a nice job. We go to work tomorrow to get ready for the second semester.”
Big Ten Freshman of the Week Guy Moskovich won the 1650 freestyle. His time of 15:16.68 is the fifth fastest in Michigan State history.
Big Ten Swimmer of the Week Racheal Bukowski won the 100 free, making this her fifth consecutive win in the event.
Lachie McLeish’s time of 1:46.27 in the 200 backstroke was a personal-best and team-best, along with a second-place finish.
Gabe Whitaker and Iana Wolff also picked up two second-place finishes for the Spartans in the 50 fly. Whitaker clocked in at 21.99, and Wolff did at 24.54.
In the 400 freestyle relay, Bukowski, Courtney Aycock, Kennedy Truex and Olivia Chick finished second, touching the pad at 3:24.40.
The Spartans return to competition as a team on Jan. 12 at Purdue to finish the second half of their season.
