EVANSTON, Ill. - After two days of competition at the TYR Invitational, the Michigan State men's swimming and diving team is in first place with 608 points. The Spartan women's team is in second place with 454 points.

"We had some pretty good swims today and our guys swam really well," said MSU head coach Matt Gianiodis. "The men are in a good position to win tomorrow and we have to keep competing. We just have to keep doing what we've been doing."

A day after placing second in the 200 IM, Freshman Jacob Jarzen continued his strong meet with a second place finish in the 100 butterfly, clocking a 49.51. Mark Schramm (1:40.58) and Sho Koba (1:40.66) led the Spartans' effort in the 200 free as they placed first and second, respectively.

The Spartan men also had a strong effort in the 100 breaststroke as MSU took three of the top four spots. kevin Puskaric (55.40) took first place, followed by Joe Schmitt (56.24) in third and Jason Lintjer (56.57) in fourth place.

Jon LaRocque picked up the Spartans' third individual first-place finish on the day; taking first in the 100 backstroke with a 49.43.

Schmitt, Koba, Schramm and Jarzen closed out Saturday's evening session by taking first in the 800 freestyle relay with a 6:39.98.

Kerry Sodonis was the top finisher on the day for the women as she took third in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:03.59.
