Spartans Conclude Final Day at OSU Invite

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Michigan State swimming and diving team concluded the final day of competition at the Ohio State Invitational and posted new team season low's in almost every race on Sunday afternoon. The men's team finished with 418 total points for the invitational and the women tallied a score of 311.

Senior Kerry Sodonis was the top performer of the day for the women, finishing sixth in the 200 breaststroke and breaking the varsity Spartan record set back in 1997 with a time of 2:17.90.

Jacob Jarzen added on to his list of top times on Sunday in the 200 backstroke, posting a new season-low time, 1:45.30. Mark Gammell came in 13th with a 1:50.83 and Nick McGowan followed just behind in 16th with 1:55.85.

Bryan Williams was also a spark for the Spartans, taking fourth in the 200 fly and posting a NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:47.42.

In the 1650 yard freestyle Becca Berman posted a time of 16:55.61 to finish in fourth place and Whitney Woodbridge clocked in at 7:16.17 for a ninth-place effort. On the men's side Tanner Roe finished in 11th (15:54.79) and David Zoltowski finished in 15th (16:20.41).

Lauren Baisden took 14th place in the 200 yard backstroke for the women with a time of 2:02.83.

Jenny Rusch finished in 20th place in the 100 yard freestyle posting a time of 51.95 and Summer Strickler followed close behind in 24th (52.26). The men went 16th - 18th in the 100 free with Kyle Workman (46.19), Mark Schramm (46.02) and Rob McGowan (46.26).

The Spartans concluded the invite with an eighth-place finish in the 400 free relay as Alexandra Pierce, Summer Strickler, Rusch and Morgan Piasecki swam that race in 3:27.44. The men took fifth in the same event with a 3:01.28 (Williams, Jarzen, Workman and Mark Schramm).

The Green and White will close out the first half of their season this Saturday (Dec. 10) when they travel to Indiana for a dual with Ball State. Action for the meet will get underway at 1 p.m. ET.
