EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State swimming team sent student-athletes to the 2013 AT&T Winter Nationals this weekend. The meet, held at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee, is a showcase of the nation’s best competitors including several top collegiate program in addition to 2012 Olympians.
“I was very pleased,” said head coach Matt Gianiodis. “Summer got herself the varsity record finally and Oguz broke two freshmen records. I think it was a good experience for the both of them.”
Representing MSU on Friday was Oguz Aslanoglu in the 100 butterfly. Aslanoglu raced to a clock a season-best 48.46, placing 27th overall and setting a new freshmen record.
Aslanoglu followed up on Saturday with record-setting day, posting a time of 1:48.60 to set another freshmen record and finish 26th overall.
After chasing down the varsity record, Summer Strickler accomplished her goal by posting a 50.31 to place 28th overall.
Over the winter break, MSU will take a group of Spartans down to Delray Beach, Fla., for a training trip before opening up the 2014 portion of the schedule at Purdue on Jan. 11 at 1 p.m.
