Women's Swimming Team Wins Ft. Lauderdale Relays

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The MSU men and women's swimming teams competed Sat. December 21 at the Ft. Lauderdale Relays in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The MSU women finished first while winning each relay. The men came in second to Ohio State after winning one relay and finishing second in five. Among the teams that the Spartans competed against were Cleveland State, Mankato State, Drexel, Olivet, and OSU.

In the 200 medley relay senior Jami Archambault, and sophomores Rhiannon Flewelling and Diane Oliver finished first with a time of 1:50.22. In the crescendo relay (50, 100, 200, 500) Oliver, senior Sarah Stover, senior Shannon Elliot, and junior Dawn Polk won with a time of 8:28.79. In the 300 butterfly relay senior Anne Illgen, Flewelling, and junior Stacy Ketchum finished first with a time of 3:00.81. In the 300 backstroke relay Archambault, freshman Stephanie Merkey, and senior Trisha Iverson finished first with a time of 3:00.76. The combination of sophomore Catrin Lenfers, junior Rachel Frumkin, and senior Sarah Salenski won the 300 breaststroke relay with a time of 3:22.05. In the 300 individual-medley relay the combination of Lenfers, Archambault, and Elliot won with a time of 3:07.69. In the 200 the combination of senior Illaria Sciorelli, Stover and Iverson finished first with a time of 1:40.40.

The men's team of sophomore Chad Ganden, senior Michael Orris, and freshmen John Munley and Daniel Bacheler won the crescendo relay with a time of 7:35.34.

The next competition for both the men and women will be on Friday, January 9 at Eastern Michigan.
