Swimming & Diving Set To Take On No. 6/3 Michigan In Final Dual Meet

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State swimming and diving team will conclude its dual meet season at conference rival Michigan on Friday, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m. in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Wolverine men are ranked No. 6, and the women are ranked No. 3.

"We’re looking forward to closing out our dual meet season. Michigan is a great program with incredible swimmers, divers and coaches and it is always a challenge for our team,” head coach Matt Gianiodis said.

The Spartans celebrated senior day on Saturday, Jan. 20 with two victories and 21 first-place finishes against in-state rival Oakland University.

Seniors Nick Leshok, Lachie McLeish, Tal Hanani, Racheal Bukowski and Haley Kornburger all went out on a high note in their last home meet in McCaffree Pool, contributing to the total 21 first-place finishes.

Leshok won the 100 breaststroke, McLeish won the 200 back, Hanani won the 200 IM and Kornburger won the 500 free.

Bukowski finished first in the 50 free, 100 free, and anchored her 200 medley squad to a first-place finish as well. Her victory in the 100 free marked her seventh consecutive in the event, and her times in the 50 free and 200 medley established new pool records at 23.14 and 1:42.53, respectively.

Ana Sortland, Ellie Roche and Erin Szara swept the top three slots in the 100 breaststroke. Roche and Sortland flipped first and second place in the 200 breaststroke.

On the men’s side, Michael Schwers, Scott Piper and Alex Duffy swept the top three spots in the 200 fly. Schwers also added another win to this resume in the 100 fly.

The women divers swept first through third place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Morgan Wellenzohn won the 3-meter and Amanda Ling won the 1-meter. Ling’s score of 295.12 in the 1-meter is a personal and team-best. Freshman Erin Neely came in third for both dives.
