Day 3 Results Get Acrobat Reader

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Michigan State women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the third day of the Big Ten Championships with success on the diving board and improved times in the water. Sarah Clay led the team with a 12th-place finish on the 3-meter board. The Spartans currently stand in 12th place with a cumulative total of 55 points.

After qualifying for the final round for the second-straight night, Clay tallied a total of 304.25 points, an improvement from her 303.35 effort in the preliminaries. The competition marked the final event for Clay's career at the Big Ten Championships. On the previous day, Clay finished seventh on the one-meter board.

The Spartans also saw much improvement in the water, with season-best times in almost every event. In the 400-Medley Relay, the squad of Lauren Daugherty, Shelby Lacy, Alexandra Pierce and Jenny Rusch improved their season-best by almost 3 seconds, clocking in at 3:47.84.

Hannah Pugh paced the team in the 400 IM, with a time of 4:27.50, followed by Jessica Cutler at 4:35.80.

In the 200 freestyle event, senior Morgan Piasecki finished with an individual and team season-best time of 1:51.74.

Lacy also dropped .17 in the 100 breaststroke, swimming to another individual and season team-best time of 1:04.13. Senior Kerry Sodonis followed just two places behind with a 1:04.37 effort.

All five Spartans in the 100 backstroke event, saw improved personal best times. Lauren Daughtery also posted a new team season-best time, finishing in 57.41. Samantha Hilk followed close behind with individual-best effort of 57.45 seconds, followed by Lauren Baisden (57.49), Brooke Telander (58.31) and Kelly Delorme (59.29).

The fourth and final day of competition begins Saturday morning, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. with the prelims of the 200-yard backstroke competition.
