Men's Swim & Dive Set for B1G Championships

Feb. 21, 2017

SwimSwam Release

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men’s swimming and diving team is set to travel to Ohio State’s McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus to compete in the Big Ten Championships, which spans from Feb. 22 to Feb. 25.

“We are looking forward to this week,” said head coach Matt Gianiodis. “Ohio State is a great facility. We have a bunch of seniors who have worked really hard through their careers here and our team has worked really hard all year long to get in this position. We are just going to take advantage of what we have and do the best we can and hopefully we will get a few things that can break our way and hopefully we’ll be pretty happy come Saturday.”

The competition opens with finals in the 200-yard medley relay and 800-yard freestyle relay at 6:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Feb. 22. The following Thursday, Friday and Saturday will consist of preliminary heats beginning at 11 a.m. ET and finals each evening beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Last year, the Spartans finished 10th with a score of 230 and have been working to bounce back this season. Michigan won its sixth consecutive Big Ten Men's Swimming & Diving Championship last year, while Indiana took second.

Senior Alec Kandt was the top finisher for the Spartans. He garnered a seventh-place finals finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 53.31
