Michigan State Divers Set For Zone C Championships
The Spartans will send three divers to Columbus, Ohio to compete.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Three divers from the Michigan State women’s diving team will be travelling to Columbus, Ohio for the Zone C Championships on March 8-9 at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
“I’m looking forward to the NCAA regionals,” diving coach Eric Best said. “The top eight in the 1-meter and top 10 in the 3-meter will move onto the NCAA Championships. After Madeline Sewell qualified last year, we are looking to continue that streak.”
The Spartans will be led by junior diver Morgan Wellenzohn. The Amherst, New York native was named Big Ten Diver of the Week for her performance in a tri-meet with No. 5 Texas A&M and No. 25 Notre Dame earlier this year. Wellenzohn’s highest score in the 1-meter is a 286.28 versus Oakland, and a whopping 315.75 is her highest score in the 3-meter.
Amanda Ling and Erin Neely will compete in their first diving zones. Ling scored a 280.35 in the 1-meter and a 295.12 in the 3-meter. Ling most recently placed first in the 1-meter at No. 3 Michigan with a score of 273.52. Neely’s highest score in the 3-meter is a 280.80.
On Thursday, March 8 the 1-meter competition will begin at 1 p.m. ET, and the 3-meter will begin at the same time on March 9.
