EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State swimming & diving team will be represented by senior Madeline Sewell in the one-meter dive at the 2017 NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships.
The NCAA Championships stretches from March 15-18 at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind., and Sewell will compete at approximately 1 p.m. on Thursday, March 16.
Sewell will be the first Spartan on the Michigan State women’s swimming & diving team to compete in the Championships since Carly Weiden competed in the one-meter dive in 2002. The Mason, Ohio native qualified for the Championships after a fifth place finish at the NCAA Division I Diving Zones.
In the preliminary rounds of the one-meter dive after six dives Sewell nabbed a score of 288.30 to qualify for the finals in fourth place. In the finals, she picked up a score of 273.70 to finish fifth overall with a combined final score of 562.00.
“I’m very proud of her and all of her hard work,” said head coach Matt Gianiodis. “She will do good things down there. She is the first of ours to go down there in many years and again I’m very proud of her for what she has done”
ESPN3 will stream the championship finals sessions live on Friday and Saturday. Wednesday’s evening session, Thursday’s sessions, and the morning sessions on Friday and Saturday will be streamed live on NCAA.com and indianasportscorp.org/ncaasd. Additionally, ESPNU will air a two-hour broadcast via tape delay at 7 p.m. ET on Tues., March 28. Live results for the NCAA Championships will be available on NCAA.com.
