Last Sunday, we had our annual awards banquet and it was a very good time. Kathleen (Milloy), as usual, put together a great banquet and we honored our season award recipients as well as nine seniors. We also had a few surprises- quite a few jokes and surprisingly not that many tears. I also found out officially that the Golden Spike tradition is 68 years old- it started in 1945 by Jack Seibold's father. We have quite a few pictures from the banquet up on out sites. Below is a list of the award winners for 2012-13:

Jack Seibold Award for Leadership - Jacob Jarzen

Jennifer Parks Award for Leadership - Lauren Baisden

Men's John Narcy Most Improved - Kyle Workman

Women's John Narcy Most Improved - Emily Parsons

Morgan Piasecki Spartan of the Year Award - Summer Strickler

Jason Vadney Spartan of the Year Award - David Zoltowski

Women's Swimmer of the Year - Jenny Rusch

Men's Swimmer of the Year - Jacob Jarzen

Women's Diver of the Year - Alison Menzies

Men's Diver of the Year - Charles Maurer

Women's Freshman of the Year - Lizzie Brown

Men's Freshman of the Year - Jacob Moore

Kevin Zielinski Heart Award - Alexandra Pierce

John Munley Memorial Scholarship - Bryan Williams

I want to thank Ian Clutten and Brooke Sauchak who assisted Jack Seibold with the Golden Spike ceremony this year. I also want to thank Morgan Piasecki who came to help hand out the award named in her honor.

For the 12th consecutive year, Tom Munley attended the banquet and awarded the scholarship named in his brother's honor. Bryan Williams joins a prestigious list of Spartans who have won the award through the years.

I did get a chance to see Brian Fitzgerald and Steve Bargwell at the very cold spring football game on Saturday. It was nice to see those guys and their families.

We have only a few days of classes left and on Monday we start exams. Always a stressful time of the year for the team but we're looking to finish strong.

Until next time,

Matt G
