EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State swimming and diving program recently announced that four student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent with the women's swim team. Cassie Hamilton, Mara Loniewski, Sarah Biasello and Sasha Lewerenz will be a part of the class of 2010.
"We are very happy with the women who committed to us in the spring and we feel they will be a good fit in our program," MSU head coach Matt Gianiodis stated. "Sasha Lewerenz and Mara Loniewski are two great in-state talents who will help us immensely. Cassie Hamilton and Sarah Biasello are out-of-state kids who enjoyed their visits at Michigan State and really found their niche. Including walk-ons, our women's class of 2010 is going to be 15 strong"
Coach Gianiodis on signees:
Sasha Lewerenz - Rochester Hills, Mich. (Rochester Adams HS) "Sasha is a great swimmer whose specialty is backstroke, but she will be able to aid in many events at Michigan State. Last summer she won the USS sectional championship in the 200 backstroke. She also had a lot of success at the high school level. I expect her to be able to step right in and help our team."
Mara Loniewski - Northville, Mich. (Farmington Mercy HS) "Mara comes from a Green and White family. She has a lot of versatility in her freestyle events and she is going to be on our relays next year. She had a good spring and we look forward to her career as a Spartan.
Cassie Hamilton - Kennewick, Wash. (Southridge HS) "Cassie has had a lot of success in age group swimming and we hope that continues here at MSU. She is another kid who had a great visit and really fit well with our team."
Sarah Biasello - Austin, Texas (Westwood HS)
"Sarah fills a real need for us in the breaststroke events and is an overall good athlete. She really took to our team and is planning to enroll in July so she can get a jump start at State."
