As many of you know well, nothing brings a bigger smile to the faces of Spartan swimmers and divers like an extended summer! Having high temperatures in the mid 70's in October makes Michigan State the best place to swim and dive. We have had outdoor practices the entire way and we have been able to train Long Course as though it was the middle of July. Just keep your fingers crossed this global warming continues.

I want to apologize for missing last week, I was a little busy with things and I spent the end of the week traveling back to my hometown in New York. While in New York, I was fortunate to be inducted into my high school's athletic hall of fame. It was a real thrill for my family and me to be given such a nice honor.

OK, back to the important stuff.

We are now 9 days away from the alumni meet. If you have any questions at all regarding the meet, please call me. It is going to be confusing and I want to make sure that everyone has a chance to get to campus and the meet on time.

Also, here is a reminder that our three Heusner Award winners are: Kent Johnson, Dan Batchelor and the Munley family.

Please make note that we are having a Green and White meet on Friday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. We are going to have our team draft early next week and the meet promises to be very competitive. If you are in town, please stop by and say hello.

This Friday, we are going to have Tom Munley address our team for a few minutes. Tom is the fourth alumnus to pep up the team. It is a nice experience for the team to take in some of the wisdom of people who have been through it.

For those of you who are interested, the team of sophomores and juniors destroyed the seniors and freshmen in our annual scavenger hunt. It was a particularly weak effort by senior captain Matthew McNichols. To his defense, Matt may have been distracted in that he has been named the head of the MSU SAAC committee. He has also been appointed to the MSU Athletic Council and the Big Ten Athletic Council. So his poor effort at the scavenger hunt gets a pass.

I really hope all is well for you and I look forward to seeing many of you next week. As you all know, I love Homecoming and I love the alumni meet.

    Until next time,
    Matt G.
