EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State swimming & diving head coach Matt Gianiodis released the team's schedule for the 2012-13 schedule on Tuesday.

"I feel we have a very competitive schedule this year," said Gianiodis. "Thankfully we have a few more home dates than last year, allowing us to compete in front of our Spartan fans. We are looking forward to a tough fall semester schedule which should prepare us as we hope to improve on our Big Ten and national performances in 2013."

The Spartans open the season with an outdoor meet against Wisconsin on Friday, Sept. 28 at 5 p.m. as a pre-cursor to the football team's home opener against Boise State at Spartan Stadium.

Following the Alumni Meet on October 13 (9 a.m.), MSU host Iowa on Oct. 19 at 4 p.m. The following weekend, the women's team will be at Illinois on Oct. 26, while the men will host Notre Dame the next day at 12 p.m.

On Nov. 9, the Spartans will again face Grand Valley State at Jenison High School in Jenison, Mich. MSU will stay on the road for the rest of the fall semester, traveling to Cleveland, Ohio for the Viking College Invite on Nov. 16-18, and to Austin, Texas for the U.S. Short Course Nationals on Nov. 30-Dec. 2. After final exams, the team will spend a week (Dec. 16-23) in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. to train for the spring season.

The spring schedule begins with two home contests. First, the women's team will face Toledo on Jan. 11 at 6 p.m., then both squads will take on Purdue on Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. The next weekend, the Spartans head to Bowling Green for a tri-meet with the Falcons and Buffalo on Jan. 19.

Both the men and women host Michigan in their home finales this season, as both meets are split around a road contest at Oakland. The women face the Wolverines on Jan. 25, while the men square off against U-of-M on Feb. 9. In between, both teams go to Oakland on Jan. 26.

The Big Ten Women's Championships is set for Feb. 20-23 in Minneapolis, Minn., while the men's championship will be Feb. 27-March 2 in Bloomington, Ind.

Wrapping up the season, the NCAA Diving Zones are March 7-9, while the NCAA Swimming Championships are March 21-23 for the women and March 28-30 for the men, both in Indianapolis.
