Swimming And Diving Celebrates The Past With Alumni Meet
Sept. 27, 2006 EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State swimming and diving program will celebrate its former athletes at the 51st-annual Alumni Swim Meet on Saturday, Sept. 30. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Charles McCaffree Pool in the IM West Building. The swimming and diving programs have celebrated the event annually since its foundation in 1955 by the Seibold family, in conjunction with MSU swimming legend, coach Charles McCaffree. "Our varsity alumni meet is always a high point for our program," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "It is always great to welcome everyone back to campus and have the current team meet the Spartans from the nine decades of Michigan State swimming and diving" Also included in Saturday's festivities will be the presentation of the fifth-annual William Huesner service award. Tosh Imai, Jack Beattie and Marc Stiner will be honored for their dedication to the university and support of the program. Warm-up will begin at 9 a.m., with the first event starting at 9:30 a.m.; swimming and diving will run concurrently. A short break will be held at 10 a.m. to introduce the varsity team and present awards. The meet will conclude at 10:30 a.m., followed by a tailgate lunch prior to the Michigan State-Illinois football game at 12 p.m.
