Michigan State Hosts 57th Annual Alumni Meet
Oct. 12, 2012
EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State swimming and diving program will host the 57th Annual Alumni Meet on Saturday, Oct. 13 at McCaffree Pool at IM West and the action is slated to begin at 9 a.m. The meet, which is the second-longest consecutive homecoming event, will feature past swimmers and divers competing against current athletes. The team will also recognize the 2012 recipients of the Bill Heusner Service Award. The meet is a tradition that began under former head coach Charles McCaffree and the Seibold family in 1955, and has continued on every homecoming. Events at the meet include 100-yard backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly and medley relays and a `straight-up' 50 freestyle where former swimmers will try to beat current Spartans. The meet will also feature the Tosh Imai Memorial Plunge and a series of alumni diving. This marks the 11th year the Bill Heusner Service Award will be presented. A meet referee for 40 years for Michigan State and the Big Ten Conference, Heusner never took a salary. In recognition of his service, the MSU swimming and diving program presents an award to those who provide outstanding service to the team. The 2012 recipients will be Dave Berger, Karen Langeland, Jane Meyers, Bob Rex and John St. John. In total, 41 awards have been presented over the past 11 years.
