Wellenzohn Named Big Ten Diver of the Week
Wellenzohn earned her first career Diver of the Week award.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State diver Morgan Wellenzohn was named Big Ten Diver of the Week as announced by the Big Ten office on Wednesday, Oct. 18. The junior earns the first Big Ten weekly honor of the 2017-18 season.
This is the Amherst, New York native’s first career Diver of the Week award, and is the first Spartan to earn the award since Oct. 28, 2015 when Madeline Sewell garnered the award.
“I’m very happy for Morgan. She’s one of our most veteran divers, and she’s shown a lot of leadership. Being named Big Ten Diver of the Week is an honor for her and our program,” head coach Matt Gianiodis said.
Wellenzohn scored a 256.80 in the 3-meter dive in a tri-meet against No. 25 Notre Dame and No. 5 Texas A&M.
Wellenzohn and the rest of the women’s team return to action on Friday, Oct. 20 in their first home meet of the season against Illinois at 3 p.m.
