Michigan State Women Take On Illinois In First Home Meet
The meet will be held at IM West.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State women’s swimming and diving team will take on the Fighting Illini in their first home meet of the season on Friday, Oct. 20. The meet will be held at the IM West Indoor Pool, and will begin at 4 p.m.
“I think we’ve had a good week so far preparing for the meet. We’ve improved each week and that’s the goal. It will be competitive and I’m looking forward to it,” head coach Matt Gianiodis said.
The Spartans have shown growth week to week, starting with junior Cathryn Armstrong who shaved nearly eight seconds off of her time in the 200 backstroke, improving from a time of 2:14.52 on Oct. 6 versus Iowa and Northern Iowa, to 2:06.73.
Junior diver Morgan Wellenzohn was named Big Ten Diver of the Week, announced by the conference on Wednesday, Oct. 18. She scored a 256.80 in the 3-meter dive against No. 25 Notre Dame and No. 5 Texas A&M. This was her first career Diver of the Week honor, and she is the first Spartan to earn a Big Ten weekly honor of the 2017-18 season.
The women look to take another victory on the season, as they did two weeks ago against Northern Iowa.
