EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to Iowa City, Iowa, on Friday (Oct. 23) for a double-dual meet against Iowa and UW-Milwaukee.

The MSU women's team enters Friday's meet after a tough season-opening defeat to Illinois last weekend. Juniors Stephanie Fisher (100 and 200 backstroke) and Becca Ebner (100 and 200 butterfly) each picked up two first-place finishes to lead the Spartans in the pool while three divers - Kayla Kalmbach, Sarah Clay and Sarah Mory - all had NCAA Regional-qualifying scores on the one and three-meter boards.

"We need to be more consistent and at the same time, take a step up," said MSU head coach Matt Gianiodis. "I'm looking for some level of consistency so we can get this thing moving forward in the second semester."

For the Spartan men's team, led by nine seniors, it will be the first meet of the 2009-10 campaign.

"With the long bus trip, it's kind of a tough place to start," said Gianiodis. "We've been out there before and a lot of our guys have made that trip, so it should be interesting to see where we are."
