Michigan State Men's Swim Team Third In Season Opener
Oct. 29, 1999 EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men’s swimming and diving team opened their season with a third-place finish with 435 points at the Michigan Invitational Friday, Oct. 29. Michigan held the first-place position with 736 points. Junior John Munley (Kalamazoo, Mich.) led the Spartans with their only first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.36), an event Munley qualified to swim at the Olympic Trials this summer. Freshman diver Nick Visscher (Holland, Mich.) produced a second-place finish in the 1-meter dive with 248.25 points. Senior Casey Guntzviller (Wixom, Mich.) finished third in the 3-meter dive (226.05). Freshman Joe Brennan (Poway, Calif.) also made an impact for the Spartans, finishing fourth in the 500 freestyle (4:41.33) and fifth in the 1000 freestyle (9:38.67). The Michigan State men’s swimming and diving team will be in action again on Sunday, Oct. 31, at the Northwestern Relays in Evanston, Ill., at noon.
