The Michigan State men's swimming and diving team traveled to Ypsilanti, Mich., on Saturday (Nov.8) afternoon to compete against the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Spartans held their own with five first place finishes out of 13 events, but it wasn't enough to lead them to victory.

The men jumped right in at the start of the meet capturing a first place time of 3:24.74 in the 400-yard medley relay. The winning relay team consisted of Rudolf Wagenaar, Ian Clutten, Nick Harley and David Lessard.

Harley went on to seize another win in the 50-yard freestyle posting a time of 21.78. Clutten contributed with two other top-notch races, winning the 200 individual medley and the 200 breaststroke with times of 1:53.79 and 2:04.72, respectively. The fifth winning time came from Peter Politi in the 100 free (47.65). Matt Wisniewski followed Politi posting a time of 47.91, which was good enough for third place.

In the 200 free, Jason Vadney and David Lessard claimed second and third, touching out with times of 1:42.05 and 1:44.99, respectively. Another second and third place sweep came from Wagenaar (1:52.57) and Johan Sunryd (1:53.04) in the 200 backstroke. Vadney also contributed points in the 500 free marking a third-place finish with a time of 4:41.02.

The diving event gave points to the Spartan men with contributions from Justin Laskowski (245.70) and Patrick Sheahan-Stahl (245.10) earning another second and third punch from MSU that afternoon. Consistency was the name of the game when the 400 free relay resulted in the final, second and third place finishes. The second-place relay team of Politi, Wagenaar, Patrick Saucedo, and Wisniewski posted a time of 3:08.97, while the third-place relay team of Vadney, Joel Hagerman, Lessard, and Harley posted a 3:09.27.

The Spartan men continue their season on the road when they travel to Muncie, Ind., to compete against Ball State on Saturday Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.
