Swimming & Diving Host Two Home Meets This Weekend
Both meets will be held at the IM West Indoor Pool.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State swimming and diving programs will host two home meets this weekend. The women take on Bowling Green on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. and both the men’s and women’s teams will take on Miami (Ohio) the following day, Nov. 11, at 12 p.m. at the IM West Indoor Pool.
“They’re both really good teams. Matt (Ense) is a great coach. I don’t know Hollie (Bonewit-Cron) that well but her team is pretty good. We’ll have our work cut out for us. We’ll have some really good athletes in here on both days,” head coach Matt Gianiodis said. “This is our last dress rehearsal before we head to Northwestern, so we’re going to try to be as sharp as we possibly can be so that we can be sharp next weekend."
The Spartans are coming off of a win two weeks ago at Division III powerhouse Kenyon College. Between the men’s and women’s teams, the Spartans collected 16 first-place finishes, a season best.
Senior Racheal Bukowski placed first in both the 50 and 100 freestyle. Nick Leshok finished first in the 100 breaststroke and 100 freestyle. Sophomore Scott Piper also took home two first-place finishes – one in the 200 backstroke and one in the 400 IM.
For the diving team, Morgan Wellenzohn placed first in the 1-meter and 3-meter. She scored a personal best of 315.75 in the 3-meter. On the men’s side, Nolan Gutenschwager placed second in both the 1-meter and 3-meter.
Results from Friday’s and Saturday’s meets will be available at msuspartans.com following the conclusion of the contests.
