EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State men's and women's swimming and diving is ranked among the nation's top 25 in four events by "Taper and Shave," a swimming publication.

The rankings are based upon top times in the early season.

Sophomore John Munley (Kalamazoo) is ranked 11th in the nation in the 200-yard freestyle and is the lone Spartan individual to earn distinction.

Munley is also part of the men's 800 free relay, which holds down the Spartans' top ranking at No. 6 in the nation. The men's 400 medley relay is ranked 22nd.

On the women's side, Michigan State is ranked 25th in the 200 free relay.

The Spartan women are in action this Friday against ohio State at 6 p.m. at McCaffree Pool on the MSU campus.

The Spartan men are off until a men's and women's competition at the Notre Dame Invitational Dec. 3-5.

Four Spartans and two MSU coaches are participating in the Big Ten All-Stars vs. the U.S. Swimming National Team meet this Friday and Saturday in Evanston, Ill. Munley, senior John Bruesch, junior Dianne Oliver and sophomore Andrea Stewart are swimming for the Big Ten team, while assistant coaches Mary Ellen Wydan and Matt Gianiodis are part of the coaching staff.
