Three Spartans Earn Big Ten Weekly Honors
Bukowski, Chick and Moskovich earn their first career Big Ten weekly honors.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Michigan State swimming and diving’s Racheal Bukowski, Olivia Chick and Guy Moskovich all earned Big Ten weekly accolades as announced by the Big Ten Conference on Wednesday. Bukowski was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week, while Chick and Moskovich were named Big Ten women’s and men’s Freshman of the Week, respectively.
This marks the first career weekly honor for all three swimmers and is the team’s most Big Ten Weekly Honors in a single week since the Spartans picked up six on Dec. 13, 2011.
“I’m proud of Racheal. She has worked her way into becoming one of the better swimmers in the conference,” head coach Matt Gianiodis said. “Guy is a hard-worker and is steadily learning how to compete in dual meets. Olivia is maturing as well. She is a very good competitor.”
Bukowski contributed four first-place finishes in Michigan State’s victory over Bowling Green on Friday, Nov. 10, and registered another four first-place finishes in the Spartans’ meet against Miami (Ohio) the following day. The Crown Point, Indiana, native swam the fastest split times in all four relay wins, and won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in both meets over the weekend.
The senior’s first-place finish in the 50 free on Saturday against Miami (Ohio) was her fifth consecutive win in the event, and her 100 free win was her fourth straight in the event.
Chick led two relays to first-place finishes over the weekend. The Yellow Springs, Ohio, native placed second in both the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle in the Spartans’ victory over Bowling Green. Chick’s time of 1:53.56 in the 200 free was a personal season-best.
Moskovich won the 1000 free in the MSU’s victory over Miami (Ohio) this weekend. His time of 9:32.78 is a personal season-best, along with a team best. The Haifa, Israel, native also placed third in the 500 freestyle.
The Spartans return to action Friday, Nov. 17 in Evanston, Illinois for the Northwestern TYR Invitational at 9 a.m.
