Swimming & Diving To Compete In Three Day Northwestern TYR Invitational
Each day begins at 9 a.m. CT.
EAST LANSING, Mich. -- The Michigan State swimming and diving program will travel to Evanston, Illinois to compete in the Northwestern TYR Invitational. The meet will be held in the Norris Aquatics Center for three days of action, Nov. 17-Nov. 19, with each day starting at 9 a.m. CT.
“For the large majority of kids on our team this is the biggest meet of our semester. We have worked really hard this year and I think everyone is excited to perform well,” head coach Matt Gianiodis said.
Both the men’s and women’s teams are coming off of wins from the previous weekend. The men’s team defeated Miami (Ohio) 180-118 on Nov. 11, and the women defeated Bowling Green 186-114 on Nov. 10.
Bukowski was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week after contributing eight first-place finishes in the two meets over the weekend. Her first-place finish in the 50 free on Saturday against Miami (Ohio) was her fifth consecutive win in the event, and her 100 free win was her fourth straight.
Chick was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on the women’s side after leading two relays to first-place finishes over the weekend and placed second in the 200 and 100 freestyles. Her time of 1:53.56 in the 200 free was a personal season-best.
Moskovich was also named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after his first-place finish in the 1000 free. He posted a time of 9:32.78 that is a personal season-best, along with a team best.
Along with those outstanding performances, Nick Leshok won the 100 breaststroke and 100 free, and Haley Kornburger won the 500 and 1000 free. In their meet against Miami (Ohio), both the men’s and women’s teams collected a total of 18 first-place finishes, a season-best.
