Senior John Munley was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week Monday. He broke Notre Dame pool records in the 200 and 500 free this weekend, and aided the 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams to first-place finishes.

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State senior John Munley (Kalamazoo, Mich./Portage Central H.S.) was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week Monday for his exceptional performance at the Notre Dame Invitational this weekend. Munley led the Spartans to a first-place finish at the invitational by posting new Notre Dame pool records in the 200-yard freestyle (1:38.09) and the 500 free (4:28.44). In addition, he was a member of the first place 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams.

Munley earned MSU's Most Valuable Athlete Award for two consecutive years. He finished fourth in the 200 freestyle at the 2000 Big Ten Championships and qualified for the 2000 Olympic Trials in the event as well.
