Coach G's Blog: Recapping a Successful Fall
MSU head coach, Matt Gianiodis talks about how the teams have had a busy fall season
Dec. 6, 2012
It has been a month and I have not been very good at updating this blog. We have been very busy and we have performed very well. Our team went to two invitationals and the results were very solid. Our women won the Cleveland State Invitational the weekend before Thanksgiving. We traveled 16 people to the USA Swimming Winter Nationals in Austin, TX last weekend. Full results from all of our meets this semester can be found on this website. Full videos of every race this year can be found on our YouTube channel.
We had some incredible support by parents and alumni at all of our meets this semester. I want to especially thank Joel Hageman for coming out to see us while we were in Cleveland. I want to thank Mary Lou Moore "crazy MSU lady" for coming out to see us in Austin. It means a lot to our team to have such support.
I had a great chance to see so many former team members at Michael Van Beek and Laura DeFord's wedding on November 10th. It was great to see so many recent graduates doing so well. It made me very proud of our program and reinforced that we are graduating some quality people year after year.
I want to congratulate Ian Clutten '06 and his wife Stephanie (a former swim team trainer) on the birth of their son Noah last month. I have already asked for a measurement of the young lads feet to see if they are ready for breaststroke.
Our team will be serving as ushers for the basketball games in Jenison next weekend. If you plan to go to any of the games, please look out for our team members.
We will be departing for Florida on Dec. 16 and we will be in Delray Beach from the 16th through the 23rd. If you plan to be in South Florida at that time, please contact me and let me know. We'd love to have people drop by practice.
I am hoping that you all had a great Thanksgiving.
Congratulations to our football team for earning an unprecedented sixth-straight bowl appearance.
Good luck to our volleyball team this weekend in the NCAA Sweet 16!
Until next week,
